Dreams Poem by Alejandro Torres

Dreams

I dreamed of it
A strange stillness
I smelled the sea
Had I died
Where could I be
Escaping the recesses of my mind
Looking out on the precipice
Of a nightmare cliff
One alone in Delphi
Seeking truth
Even the most fierce
Would be tamed
By love
It had been some time
Into my salvation
Damnation
Gift or curse
I’m hardly fit to judge the bill
When the Muses granted me this
Once where word fled me
I could not stem off the flow
Of lines dedicated to love
Piling upon themselves
And I ached
For my savior
My condemner
The gift bearer and the curser
Like I ached for air
But it seemed I traveled
The universe and back
Searching for you
But turning up
With only words
You would over look
And slowly
As the sun shone in the sky
I awoke with lazy eyes
On a cloud
To see you
Smiling
If only in my current state
Of dreams
