Drink Poem by Alejandro Torres

Drink

I drown my sorrows
In a bottomless cup
Of vodka and juice
Wondering if
Cupid and the Fates conspired
When they took my heart into account
But I never wonder to hard
Because then I think of you
And your amber eyes
Oh they were truly bright
Whenever you hated me
I remember the sound of your voice
Sweet thunder
In the pit of my stomach
An electric shock
That reached my toes
I think back to that incline of your brow
Perfectly sculpted
And I wonder
Why the hairs on the back of my neck
Always stood on end
I remember soft and pink
Oh so kissable lips
A travesty
Never tasting ambrosia
And after cup five
On dark nights
Your scent wrecks me
And I think you’re here
Only arms length away
And it never matters how impossible
Traversing a thousand miles
Would be
In the blink of an eye
Because when I wake up
The dreams of you are only starting to fade
And for a short while
I still have a smile
On my face
For you
