Dreams & Flashbacks Poem by Dio Rivera

Dreams & Flashbacks

Walking out of the car in pain
Feels like I've just been hit with a chain
Holding my chest and my hip
Keeping balance trying not to trip
Looking at my father pissed and sad
Memories of that car made him glad
Close to our destination, we were not even far
Flashbacks of the smoke in the car
Car shaking after collision
Everything in the car lost it's position
Chest hurting from the airbag deploying
Sitting there in pain, moaning
Passed outfor 10-15 seconds
Man running to us to check in
Ambulance arriving on scene
Checked on my father and me
Scariest event of my life
Thought I was going to die, glad I survived
Having dreams of the horrific event
Of the crash and how that went
Father in pain at home
Throwing up cause he can't take the pain no more
Thinking about it, Saying, " Man, I could have died"
Now thinking about it makes me cry
Havings horrific dreams about that day
Trying to get over it and pray
Used to be happy and energetic
To now being stressed and getting headaches
Can't sleep at night because of the dreams
Picturing me shaking and hearing my screams
Sirens get me scared and shook
I see a crash and can't bare to look
Now wishing I could go back to that day
So I can help avoid the crash in any way
Now it's time to move on
And leave those memories long gone
