Dreams Swept Away - Tanka Poem by robyn selters

Dreams Swept Away - Tanka

Silt swollen rivers
reddened waters redolent
of needless lives lost
swept away from properties
boasting 'prime river-front views'

Let us all respect
incessant flooding downpour
leaving river flats
to paddocks of grazing stock
verdant plains and lush valleys

Listen urban man
to earth's weeping pulse, pay heed
to nature's rhythms
avoid the sadness of dreams
claimed by rising flood-waters
