Duck (Mallory) Poem by Nisho Olme

Duck (Mallory)

I’ve never really noticed,
How I smile when I’m with you;
Nor have I ever pondered,
What it is, to me, you do.
It’s like you’re always with me,
But you’re never by my side;
A cold, but calming shadow,
Into which I run and hide.
You seem to be so far away,
But just within my reach;
Close enough to me for you
To drain me like a leech.
But also close enough for me,
To sense you’re worried mind;
To glimpse the troubled girl
Around the walls you hide behind.
You always seem so gorgeous,
From your toes up to your face;
The way your awkward movements
Contradict your gentle grace.
But what you never seem to be,
Is open with your heart;
You cage it up and hold it close
So it won’t fall apart.
You lock away your deepest thoughts
And bury all your joy;
And what you leave for me to see
Is what you can’t destroy.
An ashen girl with golden hair
And piercing cobalt eyes;
A girl whose only flaw
Is hidden deep in her disguise.
A girl that shares so much with me,
But rarely says a word;
And keeps me lost in thoughts of her,
With feelings undeterred.
I’m sorry if I can’t express,
Just how you make me feel;
But someday I will get a chance,
And it’s your heart I’ll steal.
