Dusk N Dawn Poem by Minnie Gehrig

Dusk N Dawn

so it will be that here
in the dark,
we will write beautiful
and malnourished poetry,
n feed on the unsaid,
breathe life into our deadnessesess
resurrect me then friend and foe by turns,
your tongue a knife n pleasure,
bring me to a life when i was weightless
n turn against all these words,
n give myself to music,
freely,
so i become the concubine,
the woman your mother dreads in long lines,
her face is pulling my smile down,
see how it fades into a frown,

completely now i give myself away,
to the minutes n hours n days,
to nothing,
time is a heartbeat away n my heart is beating,

against the odds that leave me spent and deapleated,
i am always rescued see how i struggle against it,
what makes the fight so intriguing that even i,
succumb to it
open and honest faced me,
to good to be a bad girl n to bad,
to don wings,

except the wind that blows from your breathless soul,
n bears weight in words Ive already passed,

or gates now unchained i rise against,
like a picture of someone i may never know,

yet feel in waves, passing n growing
the cold pacific of san francisco,

i was ready to give myself then,
why now do i make harbor n the shallows,
where dusk n dawn are my only friends?
