The eager eye devours the world in haste,
Seeks every gleam as though it holds the whole;
It chases light that time itself has traced,
And grasps at shadows filling up the soul.
It sees the surface, bright and sharply drawn,
Yet misses depth beneath the fleeting hue;
The dawn it longs for flees before the fawn,
And promise fades where trust was never true.
But patient eyes, though quiet, come to see
The subtler forms that rushing hearts ignore;
The slow reveal of what was meant to be,
A deeper light than all the eye sought for.
O eager eye, release your restless chase,
And learn to linger in the gentler space.
