Echo Poem by Kitty Marie Lucas

Echo

come to call on me
'come out to play'
win over a child
i lose your game
'telling her stories
it's all lies she left, '
the father insists
...what a bloody mess

...

sing a lullaby
a thief in the night
tainting her beauty
in pain as she lies
she dreams in this land
that he will never know
you won't wander where
all the wasted girls go

remaining in an echo
she can only bleed
but she would barely whisper
'please, you're hurting me'
her flesh draws waiting lovers
betray like all the others
gravely...
weakly...
scream

she's falling down
injured she never cried
can't make a sound if
they say she lied

....

a cruel playmate's
hand leaves her neck
didn't you have the
heart to bury your dead?

remaining in an echo
she can only bleed
but she would barely whisper
'please, you're hurting me'
her flesh draws waiting lovers
betray like all the others
gravely...
weakly...
scream
...
