Economic Royalists Poem by Saiom Shriver

Economic Royalists

'Economic royalists'
far from socialists
The former want the
superrich to take even more
The latter work to save
the lives of the billions of poor

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
'Economic royalists' a term used
by Franklin D Roosevelt in
1936 about the holders of
'organized money' trying to
defeat minimum wage, social security,
unemployment compensation, and
other social programs
Unfortunately, FDR was unable
to increase the size of the Supreme
Court to 15. Though the US Senate
began to be elected directly by
the people in the early 20th Century,
the Supreme Court remains an
unelected body which can trump
the will of 360 million people. It
is 'the mark of a dragging foot
upon the sands of time'.
