Edipo Por Sófocles - Poem by Shola Balogun

Edipo por Sófocles

Aceite para la frente.

Las pisadas ascendentes
en un deslizamiento de tierra,
Las lunas que se ahogan en
el umbral de los sueños,
El diálogo acompañado con la
presencia de despedida,

Claustrofobia, la pantalla inmóvil
se cierra Lentamente en un pomo,
Pasos definitivos
Desplazarse por el pasillo-

Un par de manos se condensan en sangre.

Con un ojo ingenioso
y un espacio guiado,
La paleta de un poeta engendra
Brotes de tierra de primera fila,

Lenguas de cosecha.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Elegy in reference to the tragedic form and character of Oedipus, the eponymous hero of the Greek theatre. In this poem, a comparative study is made between the Greek theatre experience, settings, props and traditional Yoruba drama. This work blends the two worlds for similarities and concepts. It isa creative re-imagining.
