Elegy Poem by Nikolay Mikhailovich Yazykov

Elegy

for T. D.

O blessed is he who on night's bed
Can lie embracing you;
Forehead to forehead, eye to eye,
With lips to lips, and breast to breast!
Blessed he whose kisses passionate
Can stanch your charming babble
And now arouse now quiet down
Wild trembling in your swarthy breast!..
More blessed still is he, o maiden of the night,
Who in love's ecstasy
Can gaze into your fiery eyes,
Upon your wondrous brow
Upon your fresh and crimson lips,
Upon your black and youthful curls,
Forgetting rapture's raging storm,
And youth's virility.
