Elroy Just Wanted To Dance Poem by Cecelia GrantPeters

Elroy Just Wanted To Dance

The party was roaring and the music was loud
And Mamie and Elroy were lost in the crowd,
She wanted to chat about things yet unsaid
But Elroy was buzzing with tunes in his head.
Elroy was charged and high with the muse
In time to the music he kicked off his shoes,
Mamie tried capturing him with perfume and charms
But Elroy kept dancing and raising his arms.
Mamie suggested he “have some more tea”
But Elroy just wanted to dance and be free.
With no time for talking and lost in a trance
Elroy just wanted to dance.......

Elroy was charged and good to be around
Kicking his feet and lost in the sound
Singing and dancing all the day long
Lost in the moment and singing his song
Shouting and waving his arms in the air
Lost in the moment without any care
No time for excuses, no time for romance
Elroy just wanted to dance

Mamie suggested he “sorted things out”
She started to plead and she wanted to shout
But Elroy said “No Mamie, this aint the time
I’m lost in the moment; I’m lost in the rhyme.”
“Don’t bother me Mamie just let me be free.”
But Mamie was blind and she just could not see.
He was lost in the moment and held in a trance
Elroy just wanted to dance.......

Elroy was charged and good to be around
Kicking his feet and lost in the sound
Singing and dancing all the day long
Lost in the moment and singing his song
Shouting and waving his arms in the air
Lost in the moment without any care
No time for talking, just held in a trance
Elroy just wanted to dance.
