Emergency Eyes Poem by John Courtney

Emergency Eyes

Hauling life from the seed
darkness kissing silence
in peripheral bedrooms
where past lives burn
flaming faces loosen
a collected sadness
gathered alone together
two kids magnifying ants
two shadows laking love
two voices hiding God
and the hearts they grow
spoiled by the lights
of a knockout crowd
looking in from the fire
love up from the mat
for the final round
but no opponent
victory in locked jaws
of the highway eagle
who came from the moon
to land on our shoulders
to land our shoulders
where they belong
where they be true
where they be me
or may be you
