Emotional Prison Poem by Lillie Garza

Emotional Prison

I’ll hide my heart for I can’t stand the pain,
Of having it break, this time drive me insane,
You tell me you love me but it’s only a token,
To tear down my defenses, I refuse to be broken.

I’ve committed my heart to a life sentence term,
The bars that surround it are secure and firm,
In this prison of burden there is no parole,
They punish the heart for the crimes of the soul.

They put chains on all that makes you feel,
Cage your emotions so you can never heal,
Forcing you to give up, do time without end,
The wardens of this prison, they refuse to bend.

There is no parole, no chance to be free,
Your hearts in a cell for which there’s no key,
The guards yield no mercy, taught well to be cruel,
Making you pay the price for playing the fool.
