Empty Eyes On A Blank Face Poem by Robert Mahoney

Empty Eyes On A Blank Face

Empty Eyes on a Blank Face
You wear your pain upon your face for all to see
and you wonder why i ask if you're alright
you dry your eyes each time before you look at me
and i wonder why you keep this pain inside

CHORUS:
Empty eyes on a blank face looking at nothing at all
Telling lies just to save face, wondering who the hell you are
You're alone in a strange place, don't you see you don't belong
On your own in a vast maze, looking for anyway out

You wear a fake smile upon your face for all to see
pray to God no one can see that you have cried
You hide behind a lie so they will let you be
but no mask can cover up those empty eyes

CHORUS REPEAT:

BRIDGE:

Empty eyes telling lies hide behind a fake smile
You're alone, on your own, in a maze you can't escape

You laugh so readily, it almost seems you're alright
but i know, inside you're dying, dying
any excuse to smile is good enough for you
You're so far down, anything will do
At least for a moment, you feel alive, alive
But when the moment's passed, I see those....

Empty eyes on a blank face looking at nothing at all
telling lies just to save face, wondering who the hell you are
You're alone in a strange place, don't you see you don't belong
On your own in a vast maze looking for any way out

CHORUS REPEAT:

You can't hide those empty eyes
You can't hide those tears you've cried
You can't hide behind this lie
