Endless Nightmares Poem by Alexander Downie

Endless Nightmares

They visit me every night incessant seedy copulating dreams.
Visions of heads cracking on stone floors while breath leaves the lungs,
A slash of a blade in a Turkish sun, flying rocks a sickly thud of flesh.
brutal visions of dark nights and traitors walking arm and arm.

His face laughing at my castration, taking joy in raping my life,
his contemptuous call beckoning her to come, his dog, not my beautiful wife.
No rest in sleep, these evil dreams, pulling at my chest with Turkish talons,
a searing pain so colossal the only one real release to be found?
