Not every glow that meets the eager eye
Can last beyond the brief applause of sight;
Some shine and fade like sparks that quickly die,
Mistaken once for stars that guard the night.
Yet enduring light is slow to make its claim—
It does not shout, nor beg the world to see;
It warms through years untouched by praise or blame,
A steady truth that learns what it must be.
It lives in acts unmarked by grand design,
In kindness kept when nothing is returned;
Its strength is found where patience draws the line,
Where faith persists though all rewards have burned.
So let us seek the light that will not flee—
The one that stays when darkness still must be.
