Enough Poem by D A Phinney

Enough

There comes a time when beatings are not welcome
Attempts at murder can't be overlooked
One finally shies away from being plucked
Before his goose is cooked

You must admit I took the stabbings bravely
And drank, though hemlock's not my cup of tea
Now I refuse to drown when thrown over
So I crawl from the sea

The falling safes, the fires, the broken stairways
My back could take, but your laugh was bigger
So let's not hear too much ado about
When I pull the trigger
