you must have been a great tree
one that grew and grew
flourishing with life and energy
you were one who knew
Your friendly gnarled branches
were pillars for new beings
they were great big avalanches
of softly woven, long, red strings
I think you were the focal point
of some other dimension
I feel the presence now
I feel your spirit's extension
Maybe rebirth like the white oak
maybe purity like the dogwood
but my very best guess
Is the wise and knowing coastal redwood
I want to take my hat off
and sit beneath your boughs
I want to climb and decorate your branches
with love and tender vows
I'm sure i've sat beside you
in one life or the next
been grounded by your energy
so simple yet complex
simple like just like flaws
complex like blades of grass
I vibrate in your sequence
and the waves just somehow match
I don't even have to see you
to feel you in the room
I can feel you there instantly
as my chest begins to bloom
you wrap me in branches of arms
and press your heart to mine
If you were once a tree
then i was surely all your vines
