Envy Poem by Samuel Joseph

Envy

I look in the mirror
I see yellow and green in my eyes
Because of the people I despise
I look in the mirror once more
I see a monster latched on my back like a leech

Why must I work hard while they take the easy way?
Why must I suffer while they play?
It’s not fair; it’s not fair I say! !

Why am I alone?
Why did they leave?
Do they see through my mask?
Can they see the monster I’ve become?

I see the truth
I see the truth now
I see the truth that I was to blind to see
I see now that jealously has truly turned me into a savage
