Esteem Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

Esteem

Friends!
Why don’t you?
Touch the soul
To recognize
Me as original
Not the mortal
Frame
Of a Hindu
Muslim or Sikh
Parse or Christian
A man or a woman.

Universally-
I’m like you
Like any other
Living being
On the earth
In the form of
A human being.

May it be?
In your eyes
A little
Different
From those
Who
You consider
To be of
Better-quality
Or advanced
Superior to
The poorly
Coloured
And shaped
Un-resourceful
This lay-man.

Putting
It down
While
On the soil
To me
Makes
No difference.

Whatsoever
The name
You may call
The cremation
Ground
Or a grave-yard.
