Eternity That Strays Poem by Alven L. Robinson

Eternity That Strays

Eternity that strays,
Lost players left in time,
Wandering as if to find a prayer:
A stair perhaps to climb
Into the sea - - the pyre symphony to share,
Still waters there to view
Before the flowing tides and chosen few,
Before the carving of the sands,
First commands still yet to be - -

Darkness as the symmetry,
No measure to the well,
Infinity to dwell beyond the gate - -
No Word, no sound, no legacy foretold,
The myriads left waiting for design,
Searching through the flames,
Unnamed as yet to form - -
Fluid Will unseen, unborn,
Deep renderings still kept,
Starvation portraits of descent,
Ravines of aeons spent - -
Anticipating.

But then the gentle touch,
Galaxies still clustered in a hand,
The cordon swiftly tied,
Scarlet brushed across the vacant skies - -
Athena in disguise - -
Walking in the rains, speaking
Through the winds unchained,
The stars to move in flight,
As dust to eyes of twilight themes,
Horizons from afar - - clinging
To a thread, each soul a weave
Among the verses said,
Each night a new reprieve - -
A sightless chance
To ford the final stream.
