Euphrosyne Farewell Poem by Danny Speicher

Euphrosyne Farewell

My dearest Euphrosyne I love you
Oh, how great the struggle has been to show
With hopes of a relationship renewed
But time has stopped, I must now let you go

Oh, sweet Charity, the grief wells inside
Now a dream dies, my heart torn asunder
Forgive me, I beg you, for I have lied
In faith, I vowed; see now that faith plundered

Indeed, I pledged to always give you aid
And, indeed, still, what my heart desires
But paths to that heart's desire now fade
Left just to pray joy, for you, transpires

Maybe someday you will remember me
Or find this and recognize it is for you
And, Lord haste the day, perhaps long to see
The man who still stands ready to be true

Or perhaps you will ponder me no more
Or, when you do, death has taken me home
Just know that then, once asleep, I soar
Free at last to protect you as you roam

My dearest Euphrosyne, as I close
Please know it was not my choice to fall back
But sometimes life brings mandates to impose
And pursuits can no longer be pursued

But, prayers for you have always filled my heart
At the forefront of my mind, you reside
As such, prayers from my lips will naught depart
And our memories forever abide
