Everybody Cannot Be Wise All The Time! Poem by Dr.V.K. Kanniappan

Everybody cannot be wise all the time!
So to say it is true about two weeks ago
While I attended a get together of doctors
About hundreds in number with family
In a hill station on the end of May on a Saturday!

As usual they had surprise meetings
With each other exchanging pleasantries!
Once handsome boys and girls
Turned out to be old with grey hairs!
Some with baldness, a few with dentures!

The group photo sessions,
And individual photo sessions,
Over followed by tea and snacks!
After a gap of half an hour or so
They refreshed with new dresses!

Ready for the fellowships with friends
It is customary to have cold and hot drinks!
With their taste and own choice offers
Before going to restaurant for dinner(s) ,
Many people may be regular drinkers!

For a few, it is an occasion to taste once,
The bartender who serves alcoholic drinks
Must know the stability of the drinker status!
Must say ‘NO’, but alas! A person who
Drinks rarely, did not know the limit, oh!

He was lying on the couch,
Uncared by anybody, ouch!
Fortunately a relative came for help,
Took him to the room with lot of hiccough,
He vomited, vomited, vomited!

He was taken to a hospital
Next day for the pain in the vital
Body part, stomach, found out
To be an alcoholic gastritis,
Treated with anti-emetics and antacid!

He took a vow he will, in future, never try
Alcohol which degraded him in the society!
Alcohol should be ever forbidden
In the so called educated brethren
In the form of fellowship for friendship!
