Everyday Means Something Poem by NIGEL SANDERS

Everyday Means Something

It was a Saturday when I first met you
I guess you'd call it fate
I was waiting for a friend
But he was running late
I was at a table
The only one with space
A girl asked "Can we sit here? "
And then I saw your face

On Sunday, the day after
We'd arranged to meet again
As you walked in, my world lit up
Like sunshine after rain
That was our first date
The evening went so well
You would be my soul-mate
Still early, but I could tell

The reason Monday is so special
On a night of pouring rain
The wind was throwing debris
Against the window pane
Flames made flickering patterns
On the ceiling up above
There, before the fireplace was
The night we first made love

Tuesday makes my heart leap
Each time it comes to mind
Lying so close together with
Our arms and legs entwined
Late afternoon it was by then
Sometime between four and five
When you first said you loved me
I was the happiest man alive

On a Wednesday we got married
A beautiful summers day
"I now pronounce you man and wife"
Was all I heard the priest say
A wonderful reception
The evening went so fast
We may not have been the first to leave
But we certainly weren't the last

On a Thursday we went to hospital
You were in so much pain
It made me feel so helpless
As I held your hand in vain
The only time I heard you swear
Although it was quite mild
But that was two minutes before
The birth of our first child

So now we come to Friday
A day I do not like
I was babysitting
You were on your bike
And when the angels came
They found you on the floor
So now I always hate this day
But I hate drunk drivers more
