Exodus Poem by Dele Adeogun

Exodus

The slow and gentle tick of the clock has suddenly reached
its crescendo
The medieval adventure which started three cycle of earth ago
has drawn to the equator
And soon we have to go
From afar we have tranversed
Blazing the trails of time like a metorite
And like moon at night we journey across the sky
Coming at our time like the rain
Our eyes feeding on all that hums like bees.

Soon we have to go
Leaving behind the sweetest memories
That will later envelope our dreams at night
The bitting bugging scorning and jibbing
And all the sweet cry of love
In this burning place that scortch
Our skins like the desert sun
This place that has thought us love and affection, tenderness and loveliness, hatred and bitterness jealousy andenvy
We shared of the saddness and joy that sprout in it
And when once we find grieve stirred us in the face
oh how we wept for the departed and fallen heroes of our bloodless battle

Who shall watered the flowers planted?
Who shall tend roses, lillies and daisies?
Whose tendering hand shall caress the land with love like we did?
Whose heart will know love like we did?
But soon we shall have our eck decked with garland of honour
And our hand hand holding the laurel of glory
To show for the wisdom drank from this spring
This spring of knowledge that bathe our infant bodies.
