Exodus Poem by Bharat Trivedi

Exodus

The ferocious
old Oak-tree mocks at me,
Remember? we had carved our initials
and tattooed our hearts, on its bark.
Sitting close, holding hands,
whispering sweet nothings,
watching fragrant rainbows,
we had glided over cloud nine...

Alas, you are gone!
Don’t ever be sad for my foolish salt-laced tears.
but just tell me what should I do
with that diamond ring I kept for you?
Where should I bury
the relics of my broken heart?
Where should I dump the rose-petals
that have withered away (untouched) ?
Will I ever forget
that cold winter night of our sweet unison
when the earth shook beneath us
and trillion stars twinkled above?

Beloved, don't worry about me.
I'm just brooding.
Have your ‘fling’ with your new-found love
and be happy!
Good-bye, my love
Adieu…
