Expectant Ducky Poem by Gloraly Gomez

Expectant Ducky

You remember that attractive duck on the other side of the lake?
Well, you went for him like a hungry snake!
You fluffed your feathers and called him out,
And watched how quick he turned around.
You fell in love then did a dance,
Boom! Just like that, you’ve got romance!
And it paid off as here you are,
Glowing like a shooting star!

Expectant ducky, you’ll build a nest,
All for a tiny little guest.
You’ll feel it grow and beg for food
And sometimes even change your mood!
A few months later, you’ll lay an egg,
And watch it crack as a teeny leg
Reaches out then takes a stand,
A little wobbly but that’s the plan.

Feed it, bathe it, and hold it close,
Cherish those moments before it goes
Out on its own, to swim and scaup,
And, well, who knows what else he’ll spout?
So Mama ducky, I hope you’re ready
Because the moment is nearing, steady.
Always remember, love does not judge
And sometimes ducklings might need a nudge!
