Expectations Poem by Aliyah Lakes

Expectations

Expectations do nothing but leave you mad
Comparing the future with something you once had
Stuck in the past
Trying to forget about the last,
Mistake
Something you did or, something you didnt do
Leaving footprints behind that only lead up to you
Too busy pointing fingers
Escaping what you feel but it lingers,
Back to you
Lying to my face, saying everything's alright
Not knowing that you left me, crying in the night
A love so strong
And a bond so deep
Something so true, but we're afraid to keep
I'll never let you go
At least not before I let you know,
That I see the passion in your eyes
Wanting you to get comfortable, so there's no need for a disguise
I'll never hurt you,
Yeah you've heard it all before
You seem too good for me, yet I tend to want more
Promise me you'll never go and,
Promise me you'll always stay
The future is ahead of us, but I don't expect you to lead the way
