Exposure Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

Exposure

In public-
Before the world
Heart and head
Body, mind and soul
All exposed
Stretching out
Nude and naked.

As innocent
As an infant
Before its mother
After coming
Out of the womb.

Like a book
On the table
Of its reader
On absolute mercy
The way one handles.

Amongst
Wild hungry dogs
For centuries
Waiting for food.

Ensnared
Facing the tiger
Amidst deep forest
Thorny bushes
Peeling soft skin
Helpless no way out.

Encircled
By the vultures
Bleeding alive
No hope no escape
Running
To and fro in vain.

Standing
Facing the front
In the court
Before His Lordship
In a fix, waiting for
The supreme verdict.
