Eyes Poem by Courtney Contreras

Eyes

My eyes won’t tell a lie to you, so if you look close enough, then maybe you will see, that you mean a lot to me. But why do you make it so hard on me? I want to get over you! I want to be done with you! I want to be able to see you and know that you aren’t just some flirt, among other things! I detest you! I despise you! And, I think I might love you. But then again, love is a very powerful word, isn’t it? If you think that I look innocent, if you think I look delicate or fragile, and if you think that you can ensnare me just like you did the rest, then, I’m sorry babe, you are clearly mistaken…
So tell me, love, darling, babe, what shall I do when nothing is right? When nothing seems to piece together? Or when I feel like everything’s falling apart? The answer: is to do absolutely nothing and just to sit and wait for you like nothing is going to happen, to just ignore my hurting, my tears, anger and sorrow, and to just pretend that everything is alright.
But why! ? Why do I have to give into you? ! Why do I feel the need, the lust, the want, to see you, to talk to you, to have you hold me in your arms? To answer that simply, you or I would need to look deep into my eyes, straight down to my heart. Down to where nothing is a secret. So if you really want to know something, you might as well try my eyes, instead of just asking, “What’s wrong? ” because if you try that approach, it won’t work. I’m telling that you now. I, as a person will lie and deceive you. Isn’t that our nature though? To protect ourselves no matter what the cost? But our eyes, oh yes, our eyes, will give us away in a second if you know how to look, or what to say…
