Fade Away Poem by Clara Nicole Roberts

Fade Away

Thinking back on the way things used to be
Now all you are to me is just a memory.
I can point out every step that we did wrong…
Should have known we were doomed all along

Now you have her, and he is mine,
But you know what? That's fine.
This is the way things are supposed to end,
And I hope that someday we'll be friends.

I know this isn't how we'd pictured our lives.
This would have seemed as painful as ten-thousand knives,
But what was cloudy now is clear.
I was never supposed to have you near.

I don't know that you have closure,
But you must believe me - it is over.
Soon the photographs will turn to gray,
- And then my face will fade away.
