Fade Out Poem by Mary Champion

Fade Out

I sense a presence at the back of my mind,
it speaks of things long dreamed of -
dreams of hope -
but hope is fading
and the words are now hollow -
lacking the ring of Truth they used to resonate.
The voice that speaks grows fainter,
it no longer validates my dreams.
But when I am awake
and gripped by despair,
I hear the faint echoes of mocking laughter
and I am defeated.
