Fairytales Are For Fools Poem by Jennifer K

Fairytales Are For Fools

Once upon a time, there was a little girl
She had big green eyes and brown flowing pigtails
She hadn't a care, but all the friends in the world
Her parents read a story, and tucked her in every night
Her life was happy and bright

Once upon a time, there was an adolescent girl
She had tired green eyes ans chopped brown hair
She was burdened with loneliness and was used by friends and boys
Her dad secretly visited her bedroom every night
Her life was shades of blue

Once upon a time, there was a forgotten girl
She had peaceful green eyes no one could see and clean brown hair
She got tired of being used, lied to, abused
She put herself to sleep that night
Her life was no more

I thought the flow of the ending could have come from the beginning... 'her life was happy and bright'.

White, to gray, to black. Liked the way you had it change from bright and joyful to intensely sad very quick. Creates more of an impact.

Sop many, if not all of your poems are themed on suicidal, terminally deperate condition & measure....You have natural talent for the Written Woprd, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with penning your mind. However, you also must remember, that if you are really serious about your literary work, as opposed to just creatively venting for yourself....that by establishing yourself as a1-Dimensional writer, you are polarizing the mass majority of Reader's of Poetry who 'en masse', either are not pulled to your same-theme style (no matter how well it may be written) , or that it eventually becomes repetitious to them, and so they stop reading yopu regularly...Mix it up...Diversify yourself. You have the skill-set...Use it, young lady! Good Luck! FjR

wow. pretty intense and very very sad. i agree with you. many 'once upon a time's never have a 'happily ever after' and the 'happily ever after's you hear makes life seem like a joke sometimes. but then again, some of the greatest art pieces are produced during the harshest times. i mean, during the Dark Ages, Italy produced Dante, or as they call him, the Supreme Poet, while Switzerland's greatest achievement, during that same century, was the invention of the cuckoo clock. so keep living, keep breathing and keep writing. btw, i loved the way the beginning matched the end. very very nice. :)

It was thoughtful to begin with 'once upon a time' in imitation of fairytales. It's a very sad poem though. Nice contrast used and a poignant ending.
