Fakir Listens Poem by Sumita Jetley

Fakir Listens

In the early dawn at Harminder Sahib,
A Sufi stood, head bowed in prayer,
People moving, life flowing by,
In deep peace, his heart lay bare.

Temple doors, soon open wide,
Shabad kirtan fills the air,
Tears of love on his cheeks,
A silent talk only he could share.

'Just wait, ' his heart whispered low,
'Stop where you are, feel peace grow.'
In stillness, in the early light,
He found his soul, shining bright.

A boy asked, 'Why do you cry? '
'For love and joy, ' was his reply.
Candles lit, children played,
A vendor set up, flowers arrayed.

An elder's hand, a touch so kind,
'Sometimes hearts speak, ' she did remind.
Sacred music began, hymns of grace,
But the Sufi stayed in his place.

Wrapped in love, pure and sure,
A message simple, strong, and pure.
Just wait, in the early morn,
In the temple's embrace, reborn
