Cloistered inside these walls,
They were here to do God's work,
Expiate their sins.
Perhaps soap and scrubbing,
They were told,
Would save their souls.
Evil hid in sinister shrouds,
Made their days a Hell,
Mocked the Master's words.
They were abandoned here,
Shunned by mothers and fathers
In the name of God.
