Falling Up Poem by Devin Iven

Falling Up

Shadows fall around my visage broken.
Sinking into me.
Trapt inside my body, god has spoken.
I drift into the sea.

Unknown and unknowing I follow my own road.
I’m oft told where it leads.
But never knowing where I’ve strode.
My confusion it feeds.

Seeds sprout and strangle the light inside.
I fight them every second.
But there’s only so much I can hide.
Unable to be reckoned.

I tear my wings asunder, blood drips to the ground.
Unable to return.
The boom of a falling angel, mistaken is the sound.
The truth I finally learn.

Cast out and broken, I turn into something more.
Falling up.
More evil and uncaring, than anything I’ve felt before.
Deaths sweet cup.

Pressing out my anger, I explode anew.
Despair comes with a cost.
A fallen angels wings, a wrath that grew.
My purpose truly lost.

My wings as black as my heart, I seethe.
I’ve fallen, from the sky.
The loss of mercy, once more I grieve.
So into the night, I fly.
