Familiar Poem by Melissa Joy Chesky

Familiar

It’s so natural
So easy and familiar
To my senses.
It’s just too repetitive
I’ve done this before.
It’s just too easy
To reenact this again.

So smoothly
So lithefully
I remember the motions I make
Remember the implications you make
It feels right
But it’s not
It’s too easy to disregard mortality.

To do this
Will be physically
And emotionally
Satiating.
My hunger, your hunger
Will be filled
No strings attached.

So is it still wrong after all?
