Farewell Poem by Laura Russell

Farewell

'Goodnight sweet Day', I have to say
As you pass me by without delay
And the stars in your hair wink at cold night
You push me on to dreamless delight.

Air and asphyxiation play between your hands
Whilst I search through fortuneless lands
For a lock of your hair, or a pulse of your heart
I am punished by nightime beginning to start.

Plummeting cherubs mock my white-dress dance
Whilst Night watches in momentous stance.
Do not fear danger my angel fair
He will not harm your heart nor hair.

Twelve dull hours I had to wait
For you to save me from Night's cruel gates,
Be glad sweey Day for the joys of sleep
For when he reins your soul he keeps.
