Farther Than It Appears Poem by Alfred Ramos

Farther Than It Appears

Your smile is like a sand castle on the shore
Waiting for the high tide to wash it away
I gave you all I had but you wanted more
Now my restless nerves have started to fray
Your fragile smile comes and goes just like a wave
And I’m drowning in a pool of tears
Delirium setting in and I don’t know who to save
Because everything seems farther than it appears`
Your heart is like the ocean’s roar
And no one can hear its missing beat
I opened up my heart, but what for
The crashing waves keep serenity incomplete
I knew I couldn’t do it alone
But you made this affair a riptide
But my heart isn’t made of stone
And the disappointment I just can’t hide
Our emotions are being swept away by the current
And drowning in sorrow is what everyone fears
In the language of love we weren’t very fluent
Because everything seems farther than it appears
No use in looking in rearview mirrors
What the sense in changing gears
Our debts to romance are in arrears
So after all these years
Everything seems farther than it appears

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I love some of the imagery in this poem, the sand castle, the rear view mirrors is classic and you use that visual well.
