Father's Feather Poem by Anonymous Jr.

Father's Feather

</>Now he lay perched on his keep
Hunting now while the world sleeps
Cooing through the darkened night
Helpless prey swept into flight

Soaring in the dark back to the roost
To starving kin the prey's set loose
In the moon this owl beams
Providing for his children's screams

Light breaks and he slinks into his hole
He protects his own from the icy cold
Harsh winds in frozen weather
Shielded by their father's feather

The night's battle fought and won
Ceased only by the rising sun
Awoken as dusk begins
Lifted by the starry winds

The days pass and the kin grow
They leave the nest, a parent's woe
They open the door, spread their wings
Take flight as the heart gladly sings

The worst was here, the best to come
You must release from pressing thumb
Let them live and be their own
Proving only lessons shown
