Fear Poem by prasanna satapathy

Fear

I hide behind stone eyes,
Afraid that my cold heart will melt
Under the silent questions your lifeless eyes.

As life drains out of you inch by inch
Your questions congeal into a cry
That sucks me in like a black hole.

I turn away and walk the empty streets,
As layers of darkness settle on my empty heart
like snowflakes on an abandoned hut.

I wish I had seen the fear that was feasting on you
Like a hungry tide.
And had the courage to confront it with my fears.
