Fear Has A Species Poem by Jane Doe

Fear Has A Species

Flutter, flutter.
As delicate as a distant whisper
my heart sinks
as a wave of nausea crashes
over me
enclosing like a chrysalis.
And all I feel is fear.

My body goes stiff,
my muscles clench up
I cringe, I freeze
a mechanism
of defense
but all means of escape
render useless

Panicked terror.
It seeps through my mind
like dripping poison
my irrational fear
assaulting
all logic
as this phobia consumes.

Grace to others
a torture to me
I just can't look away
