Some nights I search my name within my chest,
Afraid it's grown too faint to answer back;
The days demand their roles, the hours their test,
And slowly blur the self I used to track.
I wear familiar faces, learned and worn,
Each smile shaped to fit the world's design;
Yet in the quiet just before the morn,
I fear the truest voice is no longer mine.
What if the dreams I once held close and clear
Have thinned beneath the weight of borrowed days?
What if becoming means the loss I fear—
A self dissolved in many passing ways?
Still, hope insists beneath this shaken view:
To question who I am is proof I'm true.
