Fedora - Poem by Brian Campbell

Speechless he stood to the side,
My own thoughts died then.
Shaken? In pain? Hurt?

A funeral.

Halfhearted smiles everywhere,
None mattered.
Silent and alone I drew close.
My heart screamed in my face
'I know! I understand.'
Big brown eyes answered
'It's alright.'

He stood there silent,
Brown eyes flying
Under a checkered fedora.
I walked away.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

My friends grandfather died...memories of my grandmothers death came naturally.
