Fifteen Poem by Claire Slater

Fifteen

Was her skirt too short she wondered
As she pulled it down an inch
Is this blue top to revealing
Should i change it for the pink

Am i wearing too much makeup
Will he say i look a tart
No i, m going to a party.
Not to some where looking smart

Should i put my heels on now
Or should i put them in my bag
Does he know that his opinion, s
Making dressing up a drag

Should i try to sneak out
past him
Or go down and take a chance
Does he know that 10o.clock
was long before they called
last dance

Does he realise i, m 15 now
not 13 and still dumb
That i know that she was my age
When he started dating mum

She just says its to protect me
But i don, t believe its true
I just think he thinks he owns me
When he tells me what to do

If he knew i had a boyfriend
Just imagine what he, d say
But were always really careful
More than they were anyway

Yes i, m 15 now dear Daddy
And know all there is too know
So don, t start another lecture
Just shut up and let me go
