Fifty-Two Miles Away Poem by Lisa Hare Wimberly

Fifty-Two Miles Away

This story begins a long time ago
On a wintry January day,
With an event that would change the life of a girl
Only fifty-two miles away.

There came into the world a baby boy
In a place called Quantico.
While an hour away lived his future wife,
At this time only five months old.

He moved many times through his growing-up years,
And she, in her life, moved a few.
But for most of their lives there were thousands of miles
That separated the two.
Then at fifty years old, on a Valentine's Day,
The Lord brought her into his life.
And they knew very shortly, without any doubt,
That she was to become his wife.

Separated by miles, fifteen hundred or so
Could do nothing to keep them apart.
Knowing this was God's will, she moved all that she had
To the place where resided her heart.

It's amazing how God can take two distant lives
And bring them together one day.
And to think that at one time the love of his life
Was just fifty-two miles away!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My husband, Mark, and I have been married for almost 7 years. He came into my world at a time when I thought I would spend the rest of my life alone. I was okay with the thought of being single for the rest of my life, but, as usual, God had other plans. At age 50, He sent this incredible man into my world to change it forever.
As I got to know more about Mark, I realized we had a lot in common, including the area of the country where we were both born and the time-frame in which our births took place.
Those of us who know the Lord know that He does all things well. I believe that sometimes He also has fun with the details of life and of relationships. It was in reflecting on the details that this poem came to be.
