Fighting! Poem by Alex Koonthanam

Fighting!

Fighting? Oh, yes, yes, still fighting
Tho' you know you'd never win
The foe is strong, battle tough
Wanes the day, your strength giving in.

Wounded? Oh, ye, wounded, bleeding
Yet never surrender's alarms!
Facing mightier foe, and fighting
With unproportionate arms!

Quitting? Oh no quitting turn
Whatever the price to pay;
With every ounce of energy
I fight till in life I stay.

In the front-line of life's battle
Many a soldier unknown die
They die, valorous fighters
Yet never raising their sword high!

Not to those who shed their blood
Life's victories often go
But to the fortunate who ride
At the crest of every billow.

I fight, I bleed, I badly lose
And no painful inch seem to gain
I blink not at his mighty charge
Nor shudder at the writhing pain.

In life's tough field of battle
A lone loser you'll find me
But my unknown victory shall be
Fighting, I enter eternity!
