Fighting With God Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Fighting With God

Why do we war against The Lord?
How can we fight our King?
What foolishness could man afford?
To dam life’s only Spring

Depraved, this world is lost and blind
Corrupt though self desire
Who can bring freedom to her mind?
And save from endless fire

What could trouble her soul within?
To scrutinise inside
Considering her foolish sin
She’d seek to turn the tide

Let’s look at life, and nature’s source
Examine mind and soul
Should passing wealth be now our course?
And fleeting dreams our goal?

What else should God have need to say?
Or Heaven have to tell?
Did Christ not die to show The Way?
And rise to free from hell?

The bible’s here for all to read
The Truth’s so plain in view
To endless life is ‘death’ The Seed
Rising to life anew

We need to die to selfish will
Refrain from wanton lust
Through faith receive of Christ our fill
Turning our doubts to dust

From wickedness we must repent
Request of Heaven’s Light
Accept The One whom Jesus sent
And cease our foolish fight
