Films Noirs -- Il Faut Les Voir Poem by Robert Gerlich

Films Noirs -- Il Faut Les Voir

Do rabid Film Noir buffs dream in black & white?

Do their reveries rescind all colored light?

If you love the intricacies of Film Noir --

Please have a seat and unroll a fat cigar... (Wilmer! !)

Are Nick Ray and Samuel Fuller our American Friends?

Beware My Lovely -- here's Where the Sidewalk Ends

I am in The Dark Corner, I am The Man with the Golden Arm

Perhaps this gives you Cause for Alarm!

I Confess -- she's my tawdry Pickup On South Street

It's really a Nightmare Alley, and Murder is My Beat!

She may Kiss me Deadly -- now enters vibrant Laura

It's said The Postman Always Rings Twice, just ask Cora!

She has the Touch of Evil -- she'll give me a Raw Deal

But I shall take a Detour, I'm lucky as Tom Neal

I must warn Ann Savage to stay off the phone!

Instead, we can both enjoy a parade with Cutter and Bone!

My little man inside warns me with great solemnity

My turgid verse warrants me Double Indemnity!
